Uptown’s green-certified salon

Lure Salon has been working in the West Village in Uptown since 2010, when hairstylist Yvonne Hager founded it, and it remains a certified women-owned business. What separates it from the rest of the Uptown cluster is sustainability that is verified rather than claimed: Lure is a Certified Green Circle Salon, recycles up to ninety-five percent of its waste, including hair clippings, foils and leftover color, and runs on renewable energy. The salon also supports the local LGBT chamber of commerce and a children’s advocacy center.

Technology and brands

The back bar runs Davines, Kérastase and Oribe, plus Lure Co+Op, the salon’s own line. Davines in particular fits the green program, since its packaging and sourcing are built around the same idea. Foils, tubes and color water are separated for recycling, and tools are cleaned and disinfected between guests.

Team and stylists

Founder Yvonne Hager built the salon around continuing education, and stylists are kept current on new cutting and coloring technique rather than left to coast on what they learned at school.
