The Arts District’s most romantic table
Some dinners need candlelight, live music and a waiter finishing your pasta beside the table with shaved truffle falling like confetti. La Stella Cucina Verace supplies all three, plus a family story that makes the whole evening feel personal: Neapolitan owners, generational recipes and hospitality that treats every guest like a returning cousin.
The story
The family behind La Stella left Naples for Texas with a mission written into the name — verace means authentic, La Stella means the star. Chef Luigi Iannuario, raised in Italy and seasoned in Michelin-starred kitchens, leads the stove, and the location could not be more theatrical: across from the opera house and symphony hall in the Arts District.
What to order
Begin with a toast and end with tiramisu, but the middle is the show: tableside fettuccine with porcini and black truffle, spaghetti Alessandra loaded with wild shrimp and lump crab in spicy vodka sauce, or the dramatic squid-ink bucatini crowned with a whole Maine lobster. The branzino in lemon-butter-caper sauce keeps things elegant, and the tableside veal cotoletta turns dinner into theater.
The space
Cozy booths made for leaning close, warm old-world tones, gold silverware catching the candlelight and live music many nights — the room was engineered for anniversaries, proposals and any dinner that deserves the word occasion.
Who it’s for
Date nights with stakes, pre-show dinners, milestone celebrations and visiting friends who need convincing that Dallas does romance.
Good to know
Is it a good anniversary spot? One of the best in the city — tell the team when booking and they will lean in.
What is the most theatrical order? Anything finished tableside: the truffle fettuccine or the veal cotoletta.
How should I dress? Elevated — jackets and dresses fit the room, though there is no strict code.
Can it host a celebration dinner? Yes, the restaurant handles groups and special events gracefully.
Should I book ahead? Always — performance nights across the street fill the room early.

I recently visited La Stella Cucina Verace and overall had a fairly pleasant experience. The place feels cosy yet still somewhat refined, so it worked well for a relaxed dinner that's not too casual.
